New Project Supports from TÜBİTAK 3501 National Young Researchers Career Development Program

We’re pleased to announce two KHAS projects, coordinated by Dr. Tuğba Sevinç Yücel from the Core Program and by Assist. Prof. Kerem Yıldırım from Political Science and Public Administration Department has been funded by TÜBİTAK 3501 National Young Researchers Career Development Program.

Dr. Yücel’s project is entitled “What Unites a Society? A Hybrid Approach Proposal.” This project aims to answer, “What unites a society?” by proposing a hybrid conception of social unity and solidarity, theorizing national identity and the joint (material and cultural) productive activities of people together. In this respect, the project aims to see whether an emphasis on ongoing society-wide social cooperation in society can help bridge ethical, cultural, and ideological differences without jeopardizing social diversity, curb the exclusion potential of national identity, and lead to a more inclusive social unity.

Dr. Yıldırım’s project is titled “The Relationship Between Municipal Annual Reports, Accountability, State Capacity, and Voting Behavior.” The project’s main objective is to develop a theoretical framework that will explain the effect of transparency on voter behavior in local governments and investigate the relevance of administrative capacity to transparency. This project proposal aims to contribute in different areas, such as the creation of a comprehensive and original dataset, using up-to-date methods such as machine learning techniques, the study of administrative capacity and state capacity in terms of information sharing, transparency at the local level, and measuring the impact of transparency on the behavior and evaluations of voters.
